The Ultimate Restaurant-Grade BBQ Charcoal

If you are looking to elevate your outdoor cooking, our Namibian Lumpwood Charcoal is the definitive choice for your next braai. Widely regarded by pitmasters and chefs as some of the best lumpwood charcoal available in the UK, this dense, premium hardwood fuel is renowned for its reliable, clean-burning nature and minimal sparking.

lumpwood charcoal has Unbeatable Heat & Longevity

Standard supermarket barbeque coal often fizzles out before your thicker cuts of meat are cooked. Because our Namibian charcoal is made from ultra-dense African hardwood, it generates an intense, sustained heat. It burns so efficiently that just one 5kg bag delivers the equivalent cooking power of 10kg of standard wood. Whether you are searing steaks on an open braai, slow-roasting in a kamado oven, or firing up a restaurant grill, this bbq charcoal provides a stable, long-lasting ember bed.

lumpwood charcoal is 100% Natural & Eco-Friendly

Great food starts with clean fuel. We guarantee zero chemical additives, binders, or artificial accelerants. Our charcoal is harvested exclusively through invasive tree population control projects in Namibia. By choosing this fuel, you are getting an expertly graded, uniform product while actively helping to restore natural African ecosystems.

How do I light lumpwood charcoal?

Because this is a 100% natural hardwood product with no chemical accelerants, we recommend using natural wood wool firelighters. Arrange a few medium-sized pieces of charcoal in a loose pyramid over the firelighters, ensuring plenty of airflow. Once the core is glowing red, add larger pieces.

Lumpwood charcoal vs briquettes: What is the difference?

Briquettes are typically manufactured using sawdust, wood by-products, and chemical binders to hold their shape, which can leave a bitter taste on your food and create excess ash. Lumpwood charcoal is pure, carbonized hardwood. It burns much hotter, produces significantly less ash, and imparts a clean, natural, wood-fired flavour to your meat.

What is the best lumpwood charcoal for kamado ovens?

Our Namibian lumpwood is widely considered top-tier for kamado ovens (like Big Green Eggs or Kamado Joes). Its dense structure allows for precision temperature control, making it perfect for both high-heat searing and “low and slow” smoking.

How long does it last?

Due to its high density, our 5kg bag burns significantly longer than standard UK bbq coals. Depending on airflow and grill type, a single load can comfortably sustain cooking temperatures for several hours.
